It is recommended that everyone obtain and review copies of their credit report at least once a year. This will help you be sure that no incorrect information has been placed on your credit report by mistake. There are three credit bureaus in the United States but don’t assume that every debt you have will be reflected at all three credit bureau’s reports. The rules for obtaining your credit report may vary depending on the state in which you live however, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has a website (annualcreditreport.com) where you can get a free copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus once every twelve months. These free reports must be ordered through this FTC website. If you request your credit report directly from the credit bureaus, each bureau will charge you a fee.
